Sweet Chestnut Wave
Building Type:
Single storey extension with internal refurbishment
Location:
Radlett
Status:
Complete
Size:
300 m²
This project involved a major replan of the ground floor to resolve a number of issues, including a central living area that was very dark, as a consequence of a previous two-storey rear extension. The entrance hallway was replanned, leading to a large open-plan kitchen, dining, sitting area set within a new single storey rear extension.
Conceptually, the rear wall of the extension is a wave, clad in British sweet chestnut timber staves. The roof is propped by this wall and cantilevers out to form a large canopy that provides shading in the summer months. A new external paved terrace with steps then leads down to the rear garden beyond.
