This new loft space and staircase is an RIBA award winning project.  We lifted the hipped roof over the front entrance and inserted a series of square windows to form a double height volume over the first-floor landing into which has been inserted a free-standing feature staircase with gallery, allowing daylight to wash down the walls to all sides.

The staircase leads to two children’s bedrooms, a shower room and toilet and is constructed from steel and then clad with ash timber and an inset carpet runner. The steel spindles have been designed as a modern interpretation of the original traditional spindles to the staircase below.
