This beautiful site located in the countryside and within the Greenbelt required a sensitive and careful approach.  The existing single storey linear dwelling was to be increased in size to provide a large family home with a master bedroom suite at first floor.
To achieve this we lowered the external ground levels to the rear by 1m and extended out in this location with the first floor above, thereby ensuring the new roofline did not project anbove the existing pitched roof line.

The external landscaping scheme comprised a series of shallow planted terraces and this form was then carried though into the new home providing a natural location for a central curved spine wall that contained the new staircase and formed an area for the open-plan kitchen, living, dining areas.
Renewable energy services include an air-source heat pump, mechanical ventilation heat recovery, photovoltaic solar panels on the roof with battery storage, underfloor heating throughout and low energy lighting.  An electric car charging point is also included.
