Our clients required more space in their modest Victorian semi-detached property located in the Greenbelt.  They wanted a good sized open-plan living area and an extra bedroom with ensuite at first floor.

Extending along the rear or side, would have resulted in a substantial loss of historic fabric and character, and also obscured windows into the existing rooms.  Instead we designed a modern timber-clad two-storey extension, off-set to the rear corner, maintaining daylight to the existing rooms and preserving the facing brick façade of the original cottage. Full height glazing defines the junction between the old and new parts, and provides natural daylight into the new spaces.  A picture window seat is a feature of the new living area.
