Orchard Tea Rooms

Building Type:
New tea rooms and community spaces
Location:
Shenley
Status:
Competition entry
Size:
800 m²

We were invited to enter a limited competition to explore a replacement tea rooms that would also include other community spaces that could be hired by local groups.

Shenley Park is known for its vast collection of heritage apple trees located in its historic orchard.  Taking this as inspiration we proposed to extend the orchard and form a glade, or meeting place, within this new space.  Here the new building would sit within the trees, providing a direct connection to the landscape.

Further landscaping was proposed, including a reimagined carpark with trees and planting between the car parking spaces. In the end no projects were selected and the competition was closed.
